Theology and its hundreds of brothers and sisters, as well as its thousands of children and grandchildren may be fine for those with an intellectual bent. People who feel the need to examine every jot and tittle for hidden meanings and error will find a grand playground in the Bible.

But the warnings in the Bible are clear for those who wish to change the Word of God. And it does not take a Th.D. certificate to see that Jesus did not speak very highly of the Theologians of His day who changed the Word by smearing it with doctrines of their own making.

Intellectual pursuits can often get in the way of true life purposes and realities. While one man stops to analyze the pros, cons and the pobability factors of escaping a burning building; another jumps.

The Bible is a Book filled with Do's and Don'ts. It does not instruct us to study it for the sake of criticizing it, or for comparing ourselves and our beliefs with that of others. And where it does speak of study and analyzing, it is not referring to the Bible, but to our self, or for the purpose of purifying our self.

At the end of this page I have printed all the Scriptures I could find that have to do with study and doctrine. See if you can find one that even hints at intellectual conquest of the Word. If it took an understanding of the Word in order to be saved or to be a part of the Church, then none of us would make it. And if there were any of the intelligentsia who would make it, there would be very few because with all their intellect and study they contradict each other on every turn. So if one finding happens to be right, only that one would make it.

Fortunately for the rest of us, none of what I have covered in this entire section means a hill of beans. Jesus went out into the ghettoes and told the poor and the ignorant that they would be saved. And He told the Intelligentsia that they would be damned for all their knowledge that in actuality hid the simple Truth of the Gospel.

A person can be saved without ever seeing a word of Scripture, or hearing a single sermon, or even becoming a part of a solitary church. In fact, all the above hinders a person from being saved since much of it is directed away from the real Truth and simplicity of the Gospel.

When people asked Jesus what they must do to be saved, He did not say: "Study the Bible, follow the dictates of the church you join, and memorize all the Articles of Faith you can, and then you will be saved - if you happen by accident to have been born at the right time in history where the correct church doctrines had been established."

What He did say was: "Believe, and follow me."
If we understand that Jesus meant to believe in Him and His Word from the heart, and not the head; and if we understand that by "follow me" He meant to the cross of sacrifice where we totally submit ourself to Him -- then we have all the understanding of the Bible that we need.

While the Theologians are examining the Bible for hidden doctrines and agendas, the true believers and worshipers of Christ will be following Jesus to Heaven.

"Work" is a naughty word in many, if not most of the Fundamental churches. But if you do not realize that "Walk" is a work word, then you will be sitting back waiting for Jesus to come pick you up in a cloud, not realizing that you have not walked with Jesus and the Church to the "Cloud Stop."

God used a huge portion of Scripture telling us just who we should listen to in order to know His will for us, and to understand what the Bible says and means. He did not hide His Truths behind jots or tittles. He placed them out in front using big bold letters. And in case we missed the headlines, He exemplified His Truth in the lives of Jesus and the Apostles.

With all the experience the 12 disciples had with Jesus, they were unable to understand or follow a single word of His instruction. Nor could they believe or hear a single statement He made to them. When Jesus was no longer with them, and they did not have their Leader - they scattered like frightened children in a tigers cage.

Saul, who became known as Paul, with his high intellect and the best of Biblical training under the best of instructors of his day, and belonging to the most highly respected sect of the most favored nation in the world did not only make mistakes, but ran wildly the wrong way.
Yet ultimacy these men found the way to Truth and favor with the God they sought. Did they find the right church? Did they perhaps read the right Commentary? Or listen to the sermons of the right preacher?

No. none of that did, nor would have helped in any way. What they did was stop looking, and started receiving.

And what was it they received that completely changed their lives?

What was it that Jesus said He would send in order for them to live the life of Christ? To understand the Scriptures and by that what God desired for them to do? And in order for them to fulfill God's Will for them?

It's no wonder the world does not believe the Bible, or believe that Christianity is real. The way the Bible has been interpreted by the Bible experts, the cream of the Christian crop you might say, it makes less sense than anything the world could possible come up with using their own perverted imaginations.
